About Canada Food Prices

Tracking grocery inflation across Canada

What is this?

Canada Food Prices is a free tool that tracks the price of 50+ grocery items across Canadian provinces. It lets you see how prices are changing over time, compare costs between provinces, and spot which products are rising or falling the fastest.

Where does the data come from?

All data is sourced from Statistics Canada's Consumer Price Index (Table 18-10-0245-01), published monthly by the Government of Canada. Prices shown are provincial averages — they reflect general price trends and may differ from what you see at your local store.

How often is data updated?

Data is updated monthly, following Statistics Canada's release schedule. The last update date is shown at the bottom of every page.

Why did I build this?

With grocery prices being one of the biggest financial concerns for Canadians, I wanted a simple and visual way to understand what's actually happening — beyond the headlines. This tool is free, has no ads, and is not affiliated with any retailer or brand.
